My bachelor project focused on depression, the widespread illness that 15-20% of the population suffer from at least once in their lifetime. Depression is a serious illness that requires treatment, but despite being so common, it still remains a taboo. As it is often invisible to outsiders, understanding is lacking. It was my goal to show the illness as it is perceived by an individual woman, who has been suffering from severe depression for the past six years. Through a combination of self-developed imagery and diary-like entries I aimed to convey her subjective perception of the illness and her respective mood throughout it. Certain chapters cover the side effects of different antidepressants, others the feelings and thoughts she had in different stages of her life. In close collaboration with her I developed pictoral worlds in a 3D-program.
